Lay-up in NE Brazil needed

Any suggestions for a secure and affordable six months back-home-vacation leaving the cat in Brasil? On a mooring is also an option.
Thanks in advance, Axel

Re: Lay-up in NE Brazil needed

Hi,

I do live in Brazil.
No, I would not rest easy knowing that i left my cat there, alone, mainly in NE area.

If I am in your shoes, I would sail further down, at least to Rio/Angra, and would hire a local to take regular watch after you had an arrangement with a local marina...

if you want go even more to south, i could provide you with good connections, near Paranagua.

Brazil has a very long coastline; the answer depends on where will you be coming from, hence what landfalls are possible....Please provide more detail.

I have been living in NE Brazil for many years and the only place I would recommend is Jao Pessoa. There is a river behind the shore line and a little marine/boat building managed by Brian Evans. Its very well protected and Brian would have an eye on your cat.

Angra dos Reis, Ilha Grande would be a great place to 'stow' your boat--'last I sailed there, in that gorgeous archipelago, there were some nice marinas and a first rate yacht charter. As captain, I bareboat chartered a Jeanneau 41 that was showroom perfect for a week and sailed many of the gorgeous little islands and exquisite bays there. Don't miss it!

Do you have anyone who could 'boat-sit' for you?

I highly recommend Hector at Marina Porto Frade (hectorveleiros a t yahoo.com.ar). He will charge you a reasonable price for a mooring ball, boat sitting and whatever else you need. Tried and tested! The place is very nice and safe, not just a boat storage place.

Re: Lay-up in NE Brazil needed

Thanks for the prompt reply and sorry for the late reply.

I did a lot of research and eventually decided to forget about NE-Brazil.
I feel that the yacht infrastructure is not really great and eventually I want to finally again be able to talk to locals. My French is poor and my Portugese is nil.
Since I eventually want return to the Med via US I wouldn't want to go further South than Belem.
Sorry though to miss the Amazonas area.

Thanks again, Axel, aboard cat Offshore Pergola
