Hi all,

I'm from The Australian Island called Tasmania just south of Mainland Australia.

I joined the forum a little while ago but have spent most of my time on the fantastic trailer sailer and Investigator 563 forums in Australia.

My plans are to use my Investigator 563 (5.63mtr) trailer sailer to get back into sailing, to spend the next few years sailing as much as I can to relearn the knowledge I gained from sailing 30 years ago. Then I'll look into purchasing a 30-ish footer keel boat for an extended cruise holiday however, for now I'll trailer my Investigator 563 to interesting sailing areas and just enjoy being on the water again.

Welcome to the community. We were in Hobart a few weeks ago and very much enjoyed ourselves. We visited the Bonarong (spelling?) Wildlife Refuge and had some time in the city. You're far from our cruising ground though,- we had left our boat in Florida. 'looking forward to hearing of your adventures!

Welcome Aboard CP, although I am living in Perth, my boat is at Port Huon - it's a long story so don't ask - I can say that it is there because that is where the best cruising is .

Here's a welcome from another guy whose boat is in Hobart and body elsewhere for now! The Channel is a wonderful cruising ground for a trailer sailor... maybe the best we've ever encountered, so enjoy.

Wow, it's been 3 years since I posted my hello and plans, so I thought I'd update on my progress.

My initial plans were that after 20+ years of not sailing I wanted to get back into sailing and importantly onto the water sailing my own boat and to relearn my previous forgotten but not lost sailing skills. (My end goal is to retire on board my yacht and sail the world)
My journey to getting back into sailing was started with an Investigator 563 trailer sailer. The I563 needed some TLC but after a year-long refurbishment she was ready as was I... then my neighbour made me an offer my lovely refurbished I563 that I couldn't resist.

Then in 2014 I purchased a Farrier TT680 trimaran and once again, decided to refurbish her... then I had an offer from South Australia that I couldn't resist so I sold her..

Now, I'm ever so close to my end goal and purchased a fantastic Columbia 27 end of 2015. I sailed her from Melbourne (Australia) to Tasmania and will move aboard end of March 2016.

My final goal is to upgrade the Columbia 27 to something more Bluewater and in the 34-37ft range.

My journey has taken a few different directions (refurbishing and subsequently selling the trailer sailer/s and owning a trimaran ) but I'm still on track.

I'm not sure what my next and last yacht will be but I've a good idea what I want. What I do know is that I'm on my journey and I'm getting close to my goal.



One thing I know to be absolutely true, do it and do it now.

thanks for bringing us up to date, Pete! sounds like you are both learning and having a great time at it.

So, tell us the name of your Columbia and we'll keep our eyes peeled for her as we wend our way around Tassie. Actually, we're about to depart for Pt Davey and the west coast, so it may have to wait until next year's visit to Tas, but ya never know where a yottie will end up.

A great tale describing your journey so far there Pete.
I keep dreaming of sailing down there myself, crossing The Strait and getting on down to Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour.
Doubly jealous that Jim is also living my dream.....
