Ahoy From South Texas

Hey Cruiser Folks....been reading the various forums for awhile and truly enjoy the collective wisdom and occasional wit of the community. Presently anchored nearshore and fitting out my Alland 31 and myself for extended cruising. Both are about six months to a year out from being offshore capable, as I bring existing equipment online and install new systems to meet safety and self-sufficient goals.
This is my 4th sailboat and I have had blue water experience in Alaskan, Pacific Northwestern, Hawaiian and Mexican waters. Living aboard on the hook for six months has been enlightening mostly enjoyable; dolphins swimming by as I sip my morning coffee in the cockpit makes the work and storms less stressful. Using nautical metaphors, I'll close with a song I wrote years ago.

Two people drifting on a separate course, chance to meet in this ocean of time.
Comparing notes from distant seas, lose the rhetoric to live the rhyme.

Calm and content, we float on our feelings, lulled by the rhythmic sea.
Storm clouds gather off the windward shore while we cuddle on the lee.

A restless wind soon fills the sails, lifting anchor and despair.
We talk of future ports of call and just maybe I'll see you there.

I hold this moment close for every sailor knows, you just can't predict the sea.....
as I enter in the log this special note, that once, you sailed with me.

Aloha from s/v QUEAHNUK (Eskimo word for "Thank You", and I do)

What do you mean by locating members? Like finding people in Texas? There is a Texas group.
Otherwise pm specific members and if they want to be found they'll help you locate them.

Welcome from another Texan. I'm hanging out in Rockport for a bit. We'll head back to the Bahamas in the near future. Wow, you lost your wind gen overboard? It's been a bit stormy over the past several days, eh?

Re: Ahoy From South Texas

Hey Ralph....howdy. Yup wind Gen no float!!! Was running new wiring on a new 300 w. 8' above the deck...it wasn't the near tornado winds of late, but a 4' freighter wake on the beam slammed me while I was focused on crimping the new wires. It was me or the genset going overboard..should of just fell in..water's in the 70s now..worse thing it hit me on the head going in..perhaps as a reminder to secure spendy items better when going aloft...company claims if I raise it and soak in fresh water it would still put out. So there there's THAT story...if you need some water proof Florida charts let me know...boat came from there. Me, I'm gonna go coastal to Panama then Pacific. The above was the first major mishap so far..hope it will be a lesson. My email is queahnuk@Gmail.com if ya'll want to chat more. Aloha

There are also some "social groups" that are more focused on special interests. I am not a member of those groups, but you should be able to find them if you do some exploring of the forum website, look for "groups."
