Berthing in Smir, Morocco

Greetings, Cruisers!
Interested in info on staying in Smir marina, Morocco to get out of EU for our 90 days. Any problems, concerns, recommendations for us would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Berthing in Smir, Morocco

Hello,

I spent one day there in May last year when going from Portugal to Greece. There were there 2 or 3 charter boats (from Spain I think) for a one day stop and a couple on Lagoon catamaran. They were from South America and we became friends. They returned with us to Gibraltar. As far as I could understand they used to spend one week in Smir, one week in Gibraltar, one week in Smir and so on until the completion of the 90 days.

There are restaurants and bars in front of the Marina. Marina showers are good. I do not know about other things such provisions, markets, .... No diesel - the pumps are there but abandonned and rusty.

Regards, Vladis

Re: Berthing in Smir, Morocco

Was there last week( by land) kept the boat in Gibraltar. Marina in Gibraltar was half the cost for 30 days and Gibraltar is definitely less sketchy and easy to fly out of compared to Morocco.
And a slip mate here said nearly every boat is boarded/ followed by police and if you anchor or go to an area in the harbor you shouldnt be, in fines are excessive. And as nasty as the water is in Gibraltar the water was much more disgusting and garbage laden in the harbor at morocco

Re: Berthing in Smir, Morocco

Thanks for the replies!

Well, us being US citizens, we need to duck out of Schengen space for a while. Since Morocco is a cheap place to visit, we thought it would be nice to go somewhere less visited (and cheap). This is how we came up with Morocco instead of Gibraltar.

Does anyone have any good reports of ports in Mediterranean Morocco? Thanks!
