Year long cruise with dog in Caribbean

Wondering if anyone with experience can answer this..I'm seeing a handful of islands on the Carib with the following (from Caicos):

"That the dog(s) / cat(s) has/have been in the country of origin/export for at
least six (6) months immediately preceding importation into the territory."

I'm planning on departing from So Florida, then Bahamas, and then south to other island countries.

Basically looking for advise/wisdom from anyone else that has done this with a dog. Did you end up having to be pretty selective with the countries you visited and is there anything you would have done differently?

Re: Year long cruise with dog in Caribbean

Hello! We are cruising with a dog an a cat. We were cruising from Guadeloupe to Curaçao, where the boat is now on a drydock. We had any problem in French islands (Guadeloupe, Les Saintes, Martinique...). In Dominique and ST Lucia no body answered our emails with the documentation so the dog (the cat always is on board) kept on board during our visit. We were in MArtinique doing all the documentation to visit St Vincent & Grenadines, one month waiting for a blood sample results, vacunations, etc. We sent all by email three times per day during two weeks, but without response (they did it one month later). So impossible to walk the dog on shore. No problems in Grenada, Bonaire & Curaçao.

Re: Year long cruise with dog in Caribbean

Read specific rules for each island. Follow rules to the letter.

Otherwise? You roll the dice. Maybe the nice man says "Doan worry, you just keep 'im on boat." or maybe the nice man says "Doan worry, it just ninety days in quarantine" and when you get the bill, it will seem like that quarantine was a Hilton.

That hasn't changed in three years. Read the rules, roll the dice. Skip the places that will be problematic. If the dog jumps over the side for a swim and winds up ashore....Ooops, the Hilton.

Yes, I have read the rules for each country and will follow those rules, however the rest of your response really wasn't helpful nor did it answer the OP's question.

Gainza, thanks. Helpful info for those countries.

Hi!
I'm wondering if you have been / are cruising with your dog. I have all the same questions as you. I'm really concerned as the 'rules' don't make sense when you are moving island to island.

Re: Year long cruise with dog in Caribbean

I ended up leaving the pooch behind with my parents before leaving the US. I had the Bahamas paperwork lined up, no big hassles there, but didn't get any further then that. Gainza covered the eastern caribe a bit, but maybe others know more specifically about the T&Cs and other locales. I also know Cuba most of the central america are relatively painless.

There may also be some more updated info on Noonsite. Good luck!

That's because each country has their own regulations.
