Work permit in BVI

Hello All,

Anyone knows what is the deal with work permit in BVI for private
boats? I heard you can go out from BVI every month and get new 30 days
work permit when coming back, like ferry ride to USVI and back to
BVI. You know anything about this?

Thanks

Re: Work permit in BVI

Not unless you are are part of the British commonwealth and even then you have to find a local business willing and able to sponsor you. If you leave the BVI and come back with the intention of finding random work, they won't let you in.

We have a half dozen BVI employees and we can't hire non-belongers or naturalized citizens because there are too many belongers able to do the work we offer. Also, there are advantages to having trustworthy ocals on the dole. Its not to say its not possible - lots of our friends businesses do it - but its very difficult because we have to advertise for the position. Usually that position gets filled quickly or by word of mouth before we even advertise.

If you happen to have a skill set that is in need and your sponsor can't get local help then you can get a job .... but then you also need to train your local replacement. At least, that is the legal framework. In reality, its a crapshoot if non-belongers self repatriate themselves or are able to stick it out.
