Asprakis Boatyard, Aegina

Hi there.
Has anyone got any feedback on this boatyard on Aegina in the Aegean?
Looking for a secure yard to overwinter this year in the Athens area.
If anyone has been to this yard or other in the area please give your thoughts.
Thanks

Re: Asprakis Boatyard, Aegina

There are six yards in a row on the north end of Aegena. Four routinely deal with larger (>10m) visiting vessels. You'll see them listed on the Aegina paragraph of the Athens & East Peloponnese page on my web site. It's easy to find - just google "jimb aegina" and the page usually pops up at the top of the list.

What you won't see, unless you subscribe to the site (free, takes less that a minute) is a detailed description and comparison of all 6 yards written by Wim, a very reliable Dutch yacht service supplier to all the yards.

There are two "Asprakis" yards - and you have to be very clear about which one you're negotiating with. 4 brothers with differences of opinion about how to run things split the original yard into two.

It's a very Greek story . . . not as bad as the Messolonghi tale.

But remakably similar to the Brexit story . . .

Welcome to the Cruisers Forum Johnss. Your a 4 year hold out on posting since joining - I hope you become more prolific in the future. :-)

I was very happy this year with Olympic Marina. It costs more - period. But sometimes a little extra euro is worth it. I can give you more info if you want - PM me.

There are 4 Main boatyards. Working from east to West they are Asprakis Boatyard (2 Brothers), Kanosis, Takis Asprakis (The Cousin who fell out with the brothers and uses the Kanosis Hoist) & Planaco. All with the exception of Planico are mainly gravel and consequently very dusty and dirty. All have limited facilities such as 1 Male Toilet & Shower, 1 Female Toilet & Shower. All allow you to live aboard and carry out your own works. The nearest supermarket is 1.5 km away and Aegina town is some 6km. Planaco is the most professional (I believe it is actually owned by Kalamata Marina) and consequently the most expensive. Whichever you decide make sure you get everything in writing i.e. Cost of Lift out & In, cost of time on land, cost of electric & water, cost of cradle/props etc. Be very careful about having or needing the boat moved (or props moved) the Asprakis Brother charge 400 Euro to move your boat.
