Fountaine Pajot lower rudder bearing housing replacement

Hello, we had some movement in a lower rudder on our Athena 38, replaced the bearing only to find it lessened the play but there is still wear inside the housing.
We found the housing we need from JP3, I have seen their explanation on how,it's installed, seemed a bit, vague and wanted to know if,someone here has actually replaced it and what's really involved
Thanks for any help,

Re: Fountaine Pajot lower rudder bearing housing replacement

I had the same issue on my Athena. The rudder bearing housings are JP3 Type 1 which are stuck and sealed in place. So to remove the old ones I used a hole saw with the same diameter as the housing and drilled upwards around housing cutting the outside edge of the aluminum housing. Then after cleaning up the hole, I used high strength epoxy filler to glue in the new housing. Not too difficult in the end although the cost of the replacement housings plus shipping from France wasn't cheap.
