Howdy from Texas

Ready to close the deal on a 30' Soverel. This will be my new home for a while. Will be heading down to Venezuela from Texas by Oct. or November. Guess I am just taking another road. Glad I found this forum.

I'm in Galveston if you need a second hand to try it out before the long haul. Are you going to hop along the coast or cross the Gulf? When are you leaving?

Welcome! That Soverel didn't come from New Braunfels, did it? Where on the coast are you going to start?

Re: Howdy from Texas

I am a green hand, so will probably hug the coast as much as possible. I am sure the boat would do fine on the crossing. I plan on waiting until after storm season. This gives me a chance to outfit some new electronics.

I am researching some charts now, but plan to head out from the Galveston area in November. As I said, am new and though I spent many years underway with steam and diesel, wind is new to me. Figure "what the heck!"

First, I would like to welcome you aboard but next, I would urge you to talk to people in your area and study the charts as much as you can, and after that, provided that you have good navigation equipment on board, try to loosen your hold on the notion of hugging the coast. Coastlines are where the bumpy bits tend to be and since most boats don't come with wheels, I generally prefer to be way off shore...Safe sailing to you...
