Navtex Antenna Inside the Boat?

Hello Shortwave Enthusiasts,

is there a limit to place an active Navtex antenna low in the boat?

I going to install Navtex on my boat and would like to place the small active antenna inside the boat. The boat is GRP naturally...

There are some drawbacks though:
- The stainless backstays are above it
- it will be quit near to ground/sea and might be not reached by the wave

To place it outside and above the rigging is quite an effort.

Even though I studied physics and engineering I find it quite hard (or rather impossible...) to understand the short wave talk...

Cheers,
Gerd

The Navtex stations transmit on medium frequencies, (495-518 KHz ) not sure what you mean with “short wave talk”?
I installed my H-field mushroom antenna above the Bimini top, worked great.
Not sure I would try it inside the boat, but give it a go, you can always move it outside if needed.
