For Sale: 52’ Van de Stadt and Marina Berth in Queensland Australia

Live aboard in the secure marina just minutes from downtown Brisbane, or cruise the magnificent Queensland coast, sampling the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. New Caledonia is only a five-day sail away.

The boat has been well-maintained and is equipped for living aboard, day-sailing in nearby Moreton Bay, or cruising anywhere in the world. Power is provided by a 130hp 6-cylinder Volvo engine in excellent condition. Solar panels, wind generator, engine with alternator (Balmar 190A/24V) and portable generator supply four Lifeline batteries in providing electricity. Stainless steel tanks carry 600 litres of water; diesel fuel capacity is 550 litres. The large engine room provides easy access to all main systems.

Living quarters are comfortable, with two sleeping cabins mid-ship, a forward bunk, and wide settee (sleeps 6). The curved dinette area has as-new upholstery. The galley includes a gas Broadwater stove with oven and separate top-opening fridge and freezer. There is pressure hot and cold water in the galley and shower. The nav station doubles as a computer desk. The storage space is copious, and includes two hanging lockers. Large hatches open for good airflow.

Anchoring is reliable with two 60 lb anchors (CQR and Manson), 100 metres of ½” chain, and a Maxwell 3500 windlass with remote control. The masthead rig has oversized wire and twin spreaders with a fully battened mainsail, Harkin System B. The headsail and staysail are on Profurl furlers. Lines are led to the cockpit for easy sailing by two people, with aid of the autopilot and B&G instruments.

The 3.1 metre inflatable Zodiac RIB with 15hp Mercury outboard provides good range for exploring.

Built in Sydney in 1982, she has been extensively world cruised and thoroughly upgraded. Voyages include a 12-year global circumnavigation, cruises from Melbourne to France, and back to Australia, and circumnavigations of New Zealand and New Caledonia. Being currently documented with the US Coast Guard and registered in Queensland makes it simple to transfer ownership to a US or Australian citizen.

The marina has excellent facilities. 15 years remain on the lease. The location is quiet, while being convenient to get around Brisbane by foot, ferry, bus and train.

Price for both boat and berth: US$88,000. Equipment list and additional photos are available on request.

An excellent looking yacht!
What do you pay per annum for the lease at the marina and would it be possible to sell the lease if I wanted to keep the yacht elsewhere?

What is the hull made of?
How many hours on the motor?
How old is the standing rigging?

And how old are the sails? But most important, imo, is what is the hull material?

The marina berth sublease maintenance costs the equivalent of USD1537 per quarter. This sublease can certainly be sold, or rented either through the marina or the owner.

The hull material is steel. We had it sandblasted in Brisbane and professionally painted with 2-pack paints in 2001.

The standing rigging was replaced in 2007.

The Volvo was new in 1996 before sailing to France and back, and around New Zealand. The hour meter has worked intermittently. We estimate about 4000 hours. And regular maintenance and logbook recording.

The mains'l was built in 2001. Jib, stays'l, and MPS 1996.

From what we understand of the first owners, the Van de Stadt original design was modified by the builder to provide an extra 4 feet of length.
