SoCal marinas with transient slips?

I need to leave our 41' sailboat in the area for up to a month after returning from Mex. Approx June 1st. Suggestions appreciated. Location less important than price as we won't be onboard. Just needs to be secure and a " good deal " would be nice.

Thanks

Oceanside, CA is a great harbor. Lived and had a boat there for many years. It is the furthest north harbor in San Diego County.

Cabrillo Way Marina in San Pedro, CA. New, well maintained. Last I heard there was still space available.

If price is important, try

Newmarks' Yacht Centre
761 Peninsula Road
Wilmington CA 90744 USA

(310) 834-2830

Back behind the container terminals, locked gate, lots of liveaboards with open eyeballs including staff members.

There are lots of marinas in the same area, (probably more expensive).

If you want a nice area, there's Channel Islands and Ventura harbors.

Try Harbor Island West marina. Good location on the bay and prices are reasonable. Their number is 619-291-6440. Good luck.

We liked Channel Islands Landing in Oxnard. Well maintained and secure.

Re: SoCal marinas with transient slips?

Marina del Rey also has transient slips. Not quite as secure as a slip you'd rent within a marina (the slips are on the main channel in front of Chace Park) but it's a nicer marina than L.A. Harbor / Wilmington.

My boat was in San Pedro Marina when I purchased. Run down but cheap.

Re: SoCal marinas with transient slips?

How transient do you mean? You can stay at San Diego police dock a few days. San Diego has anchorage outside the breakwater, or inside the harbor (with many restrictions).

For I think up to a week maybe two, Marina Del Rey harbormaster docks has a great location, prices and clean restrooms, on the right as you pass the dogleg in the channel.

You can anchor overnight inside the Dana Point harbor. Only room for 5 boats.

Longer term, 3 months or so, we stayed at Chula Vista marina. Cheaper than San Diego. Great staff, clean facilities, close to West Marine or about a mile into commercial area with large box stores, etc.

Re: SoCal marinas with transient slips?

For the San Diego Area:

The San Diego Harbor police dock is limited to 15 days in a 40 day period. $1/ft/day is the rate.

If you are not from the San Diego area you may be able to get a permit to stay in the Cruisers Anchorage. 90 day limit and you must renew the permit every 30 days. Best Part? No Cost!

https://www.portofsandiego.org/harbo...anchorage.html

The San Diego Mooring Company may have temporary moorings available. I beleive those are $225 month.

Welcome to the San Diego Mooring Company!

Good Luck!

Re: SoCal marinas with transient slips?

I'd second checking into Wilmington marinas first, but if you don't mind coming up this far, I am fairly sure there are some available slips that size in Channel Islands, Check with Pacific Yacht Marina, and Anacapa boatyard first.

Re: SoCal marinas with transient slips?

Hi Caddy Shack, how did San Diego turn out for you? I am moving to San Diego, don't have any experience sailing or even a boat yet... But that's why I am here, the forums on this site seem full of good people, and a good place to start learning.
What was your experience like in San Diego?

Call the Coronado cays hoa and if you ask very nicely on the right day, they will let you for somewhere around $500. But you gotta be charming... and lucky.
