Liveaboards: Portugal Mainland

Hi

Anyone had any recent (post mid-2013) experience with marinas in mainland Portugal and how well they cater for liveaboards? I'm interested in recommendations (and warnings), experiences and charges.

Cheers!

Try sending a PM to boatman61. He lives in Portugal and can probably steer you in the right direction.

Where in Portugal are you looking to base yourself.. the W coast is nice but due to the Gulf Stream bring cold water down from the N its a bit chilly for swimming till after July-ish.. some awesome surfing and reasonable marina facilities,.. though apart from Cascais and Porto.. Chandlery/B'yard/repair facilities are limited..
The Algarve is much more 'Yachtie' with good marina's in Lagos, Portimao, Albufeira and Vilamoura.. obviously a tad pricier than the W coast but there are good hard standings/yards, chandlery, sailmaker etc to hand..
Most live-aboards tend to go cruising in the 'High Season'.. same as Spain when those three months are nearly as expensive as the remaining 9mths of the year.. never understand the logic..
My favourite is Portimao though most 'Brits' tend to prefer the more colonised (Expat) port of Lagos..

Digging up an old thread here..... we're looking to make the run from Nazare south this weekend and are debating whether to spend time in Cascais or up the Tagus in Doca Alcantara. Any thoughts on these? Specifically, whether there's a winter crowd in either?
