Boat sails faster on a Port tack, slower starboard?

For some reason my boat sails faster on the Port tack and about 2 miles an hour slower on the other side? Any suggestions on how to correct this?
I had a young boy go up the mast to work on the top and on the way up he stepped on the end of the spreader near the stay and bent it down a little. Could this be the cause?
Any suggestions?

How are you measuring speed, GPS or log?
