How to request support and report problems

The purpose of this thread is to focus on how support requests are made and what form and content is needed.

1. Users requesting help and support, must first provide, necessary details with sufficient screenshots and attachments if needed.

2. Bare minimum is
  • OS version
  • Computer Equipment
  • Graphics card
  • Plugin or Opencpn version number Must be from official download page (unless you are testing)
  • Description: What was done leading up to the problem & what happened and what you think the problem is.
  • Opencpn.log and Opencpn.ini or Opencpn.conf files attached as .txt, .doc or .pdf (if the file is too big) You can cut log file sizes down to the last 2 or 3 starts of Opencpn.
  • Screenshots that illustrate the problem.
  • Anything else you think will be helpful.

Rick, or forumn admins.

I suggest that this post is pinned, as nobody will find it if it keeps scrolling off the front page.

Re: How to request support and report problems

That's a reasonable idea Moo, and I was thinking to put it on the Plugin Threads page with a complete update of the links there.

The problem is we don't want too many sticky threads taking up too much real estate.

I've also put in as an User Manual

FAQ How to request support and report problems if I cannot find the answer in resources listed above?

Also I've added it as a reminder and a good way to find the thread to
Plugin Threads (sticky)

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post2899126

It is certainly worthwhile discussing and perhaps we do need a sticky thread... Maybe when someone with a request who has not provided enough information, we should just bump this thread?
