For Sale: 10-Ton Capacity Trailer

Hello,

I have a former equipment trailer that's been converted for sailboats that I don't need any longer. It previously had an Ericson 27 on it (9' beam). There are 6 jacks on it plus a V-jack for the bow.

Total capacity for the trailer is 10 tons (20,000 lbs), tandem axle with electric brakes. The registration weight is 5,500, although the deck has been replaced with plywood and it likely weighs slightly less now. It has a pintle hitch and requires a heavy truck (3/4t or heavier) to run it.

The trailer is located in Marne, Michigan, just outside of Grand Rapids and it is available for $1500.

Thanks,
Patrick.

trailer questions....

Hello,
I have a few questions about your trailer. It appears there is a 'cut-out' on the trailer-deck that allows the keel to sit lower than the trailer-deck. What is the measurements of this cut-out? Could this cut-out be modified, or made larger / longer, allowing for a more longer keel? (I have an old Tartan 34c, that has a long, keel / centerboard). Thanks for your time.

Khansz,

The cut-out is about 3' long, made of a single piece of steel u-channel. There isn't a reason that you couldn't extend the length, forward or back. The back end of the trailer is a typical beavertail intended for driving heavy equipment on. Although the cross-bracing is structural, it wouldn't take much to lengthen the U-channel and replace the cross-bracing.

The major question in the project is where the center of gravity, aft/fore, not abeam, is of the Tartan. You will want to make sure that is on top of the axles. Once you figure out the COG, you could easily add to the channel forward or back to accommodate the Tartan.

Please let me know if you have any other questions,
Patrick.

Timing is not quite right, but there is a good chance I will be looking to bring a boat from Connecticut out your way. Probably at least a year away.
