Suzuki dt8c Won't Start

Hi there guys.

I have a suzuki dt8c.

It was working around 8 weeks ago.

Now it's recently had a new tiller arm. Tried starting it yesterday. I won't start at all. The engine has compression and it also has a spark.

Does this sound fuel related?

Many thanks.

If it has spark and compression then yes it's likely fuel related. I think my df 20 has an LED that will flash when you pull start it. I have no idea if its supposed to or not

I think that engine has a separate oil tank in addition to the fuel tank. The red light indicates low oil level in the oil tank. Or could be a faulty sender in the oil tank. If true, it could have a safety cutout that prevents the engine from starting when there's no or not enough oil in the tank.

Re: Suzuki dt8c won't start.

hi guys, many thanks for your replies

I have managed to get the engine running today. However it runs but it keeps cutting out.

It will run then after a minute or so it coughs then just cuts out. it will then not start back up for ages.

bit stuck really.

thanks

What was the state of your oil tank? As CSY mentions, a low oil level causes the red LED to light, so if you still have that symptom then I'd look at the oil system. If not, then I'd look at the new tiller arm and connections for the E-Stop switch? You could jumper those out and see what happens.

Not familiar with the model but check the spark plug. Wet means flooded. Sounds like starvation so could be clogged filter or gunked carb. If the light comes on at the same time as each pull it may be indicating your charging circuit is good. How old is the fuel? Maybe ethanol in it has soured.

If the plugs are dry fuel is not getting there. Carbs are usually easy to remove and clean.

Re: Suzuki dt8c won't start.

You may as well learn now how to remove, clean, and replace the carb. It's simply a fact of life today with this ethanol fuel. Start by getting a parts diagram for your engine - they're available for free on the internet. Also find a repair book. You might get it cheap used as these are older engines. I paid $5 for mine at a swap meet.

Re: Suzuki dt8c won't start.

also just wanted to add, the engine seems to smoke a hell of a lot. i know its a 2 stroke so i expect smoke however this seems excessive to me.

i have the dt40 also and that doesn't smoke half as much.

im going to take the carb off tomorrow anyway see whats going on.

thanks
