Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

SailorF54,
Thanks for the feedback.

boat_alexandra,
GE2KAP will not work directly on Linux but I have been told it can be run on MacOSX >= V10.5 or Linux/Gtk >= V2.6 if running Windows in a virtual machine. I have not tried this but maybe there is a Linux user who has that can give more details.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Since oorex can run on linux, is there any technical reason we cannot run ge2kap natively? Where would I find the source code?

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

boat_alexandra,
Yes there are a couple of reasons:

1. Google earth on Linux does NOT support an Active X API, the windows version of GE does. I use this interface to communicate to GE from GE2KAP.

2. GE2KAP uses many oorexx windows features that are not supported on Linux.

The program GE2KAP.rex is the source but there is also code in a DLL which is written in C++. The source for the DLL is on my website.

Thanks you just gave me my 5th star, 1000 posts.

NEW Version GE2KAP.V12.0.0.11

Valhalla asked if I could modify the tile feature for OpenCPN so that it would retain the same transparency and offsets for all the tiles. This version does this.

I want to make this the official version as a lot of users are trying to use V11.0.0.0 with oorexx V4.2 which doesn't work. The problem is I have not been able to updated my website due to a problem the provider is having. To get around this, if you download GE2KAP.V11.0.0.0 you will actually get GE2KAP.V12.0.0.11.

You get the new version at:

Thumbs up Re: New version 12.0.0.11

Thanks Paul for the change.

Background is that previously, when doing a 'tile' from an OpenCPN overlay, the program would stop at each tile and allow a change in offsets and transparency.

This version now has the feature that, after making the desired offset and transparency at the first chart, you can go to the GE2KAP program and check the box 'Bypass GE Edit'. Returning to the 'Google Earth - New Image Overlay' sceen and checking "OK" allows the program to produce all subsequent charts with the same offset and transparency without stopping.

OK I will look into it. Will have to install Avast to see what it say but if you can bypass it do so as it does not have a virus.

I had the problem with Avast using Firefox. Turned off the Avast shields and was able to download OK. Also using W7U.

But had a crash on another program and restored so needed to download again. This time, with the shields still turned off and using Firefox I could not download .. got the error "Firefox can't find the file..."

Launched Internet Explorer (which I don't like to use) and was able to download OK.

So it appears that Avast has blocked download for this particular file when using Firefox as I can download others from the same site OK.

I will delete Avast and install AVG to see if that's any better.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Thanks Terry. I use the pay for AVG and have no problem.

Terry has been testing a new version for me that fixes some problems with tiling the OpenCPN chart. If you want to try it go to
http://www.gdayii.ca/Downloads. And download GE2KAP.V12.0.0.22.exe

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

NEW VERSION of GE2KAP

I have uploaded a new version GE2KAP.V13.0.0.0 that is now ready for general use. This version:
- Improves the tiling of the OpenCPN chart
- Is more robust and faster.
- allows you to create charts even when GE is not connected to the Internet ( as long as the chart area has been cached in GE).

Please give a go. Download it from:

Thanks for all the testing you did Valhalla and Gilletarom.

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

I tested GE2KAP 13.0.0.8 with OpenCPN 3.3.2104 in single chart and tiled chart mode.

A-OK

Also, the distortion of KAP charts when zooming in or out experience with the previous beta version of OpenCPN has been fixed

Re: Google Earth to BSB / KAP

Thanks Valhalla,

I found a little problem in the check.rex program where it sometimes does not load the options from the last version of GE2KAP, so have uploaded version GE2KAP.V13.0.0.9

Below is an example of a CM93 chart that is not correct (off by over 4 seconds in lat and lon, 125 meters) and the resulting corrected chart created by GE2KAP for the same area (Tininan/Saipan lat: 14 57.9918 N lon: 145 37.1398 E)
