For original poster: You can likely just leave Florida and go where you want until someone notices if you have a current decal. Florida tax is about 6% (depends on county?) Some states (like Florida) you cant title it there if it is Documented. (just went through this) but you can register it and get a decal and pay the tax. I have bought boats in Maryland, stayed months, moved south, stayed months, went to the Carribean, stayed years, returned to FL and never paid tax anywhere and just had the document.... To some extent it may depend on the mood of the officer that checks you out (if questioned) and your ability to say the right things and only the right things!
