When we provision, we take inventory of what we have, total 100% inventory. It's a royal pain in the neck and the longest part of the process.

Next step, list our meals all 30 or 60 days worth. We generally can go further because of leftovers, going out etc.

Next start adding quantities that we need. Our spreadsheet does the work of calculating what we have and what is needed to buy.

There is some thought that has to go into some items: spices, condiments. We've come to know what items we use a lot of, so we adjust the quanties as needed.
