The Desert Locust is a major agricultural pest in Africa, the Middle East and South-West Asia, and swarms are known to make downwind flights over hundreds and thousands of miles between seasonal breeding areas.

In November of 2004, hot seasonal winds known as the Levante, carried swarms of desert locusts from Northwest Africa to Spain’s Canary Islands ( Fuerteventura and Lanzarote).

Locust Bisque:
Put one gallon of locusts (legs & wings removed), two onions, one clove of garlic and two carrots into a large pot, and fill with water. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and simmer for three hours. Process in blender in batches and strain before returning to a clean pot. Add one cup of whipped cream, being sure not to allow it to boil.”
