Re: MSD Type 1 when docked ? Purasan, etc.

Check the EPA website for NDZs...

If not in one...either Purisan or Electroscan perfectly legal...sitting or underway...though some local jurisdictions try to go beyond that and that is a...

Re: Poll for boats having dock water supply hoses.

Re: Poll on dock water supply failures

Re: Poll for boats having dock water supply hoses.

My boat has a built in regulator on the fresh water inlet and my RV did not have a float valve or any of the others I ever worked on or shopped.

While the fresh water system should be carefully...

Re: Poll on dock water supply failures

I agree...have been in the salvage business for 13 years/USCG 23 years and never had or heard of a boat sinking from the fresh water hose....though I am sure there are some.

I had a run for 2...

Re: ICW S of Norfolk, Route 1 or 2

Been through 5 times in the last 3 years....through in December and April.

4 foot draft..never even a bump.

Only a few boats to pass, but I could see bumping something if there was a lot of 2...

Re: New fighting fire product

Reminds me of the John Wayne movie "Hellfighters".

Works when in contact with flames.....and only a limited area from what the video showed.

Might be valuable as a tossed manual extinguisher,...

Re: Procedures for towing a sailboat with a sailboat under sail

After thousands of tows...while the towed vessel doesn't think for you...towing isn't all that difficult or dangerous in benign conditions. I see weekend warriors towing just fine all the time, they...

Re: Procedures for towing a sailboat with a sailboat under sail

As a busy 13 year assistance tower this is definitely the most important piece of advice so far.

Even pulling with a high horsepower towboat with prop wash over the rudder, a sail boat yanking...

Re: Practical Benefit to USCG OUPV License?

Well my resume is certainly similar to yours and I have to disagree...

The USCG has repeatedly said that if you are on board a vessel where the skipper may or may not have a license but you...

Re: Practical Benefit to USCG OUPV License?

Having been close to the source (23 years in the USCG) and 6 years teaching licensing and dealing with the licensing arm of the USCG...they have made the threat many times unoficially.

I too...

Bottom line...not really...

The passage from Chincoteague to OC, MD last I knew was still usable for boats with less than 4 foot draft but like the NJ ICW...I would only do it on the coupe...

Re: Atlantic ICW

Like all bodies of water...direction and strength of wind is key..

The ocean off the Delmarva has little current where the Chesapeake does have current and can stack up the waves pretty bad in...

Re: Atlantic ICW

A big misconception is that the Chesapeake is somehow protected waters.....

While it provides more safe havens to pull into, it is still pretty big water when the wind pipes up. Often the wind...

Re: jrc 1000 radar

Resetting probably won't get it to turn.

The JRC 1000 was so bad at the marine electronics place I worked at...we suggested to JRC to start selling it at Toys R Us.

Hate to be the bearer...
