Re: Shoal Keel or Full Swing Keel ?

WOW: This is an old thread. I barely remember it.

Let me correct my previous post from 5 Years ago.

Since then I purchased an Aquarius 23'

It has modified my views about keels.

Re: What if we had "intent" in anchoring laws?

Zboss is right, in the USA we have the best Government money can buy. We follow the "Golden Rule", he who has the gold makes the rules.

Unless we want an anchoring law written by a marina...

Re: Our 1300 mile trip taught us a lot!

Commercial ships ONLY answer if you call them by name, or id number. If they are moving toward you that means you need an AIS. After I bought a VHF that had AIS built it, I wouldn't go the ICW...

Re: Newlyweds buy a boat sight unseen and go cruising in the Caribbean: A Video Journ

You make the compromises you have to make to get it done.

There are plenty of horror stories, but the boat sailed there to begin with, and if the owner is honest you rely on their word to get what...

Re: What if we had "intent" in anchoring laws?

I once had an old car.

I parked it in front on the street.

For several months I parked in the same place, then one day the engine stopped working, I left it there as I didn't have the money to...

Re: What if we had "intent" in anchoring laws?

I have confidence that with a little debate we could come up with a fair, balanced law, that we could then sign a petition, and circulate among the yacht clubs, and come up with enough political...

Re: Our 1300 mile trip taught us a lot!

I watched the Youtube videos. They were nice, except there are a few things I waas looking for I didn't see.

Most of the footage was either the interior of the boat, or sitting at a restaurant, or...

Re: Our 1300 mile trip taught us a lot!

Send me some details of the trip. I'm planning on doing this spring 2016, and am curious of the current state of the ICW.

Re: Dangerous Voltage No Swimming signs at marina

I agree, the one reading I'm most concerned about is the prop shaft vs water voltage. The zincs should be connected to the boats DC grounding system, and at the same voltage.

Re: Dangerous Voltage No Swimming signs at marina

You want your meter on Volts, NOT ohms.

Re: Is AIS isolated or linked?

AIS is the next best thing after the invention of the anchor, I wouldn't leave the dock without one.

It's one thing to see a dot on the radar screen coming toward you on a collision course, and...

Re: Frustrated finding a boat. help please

I bought a small trailerable Aquarius for $500 to learn on, (available if you want it).

I sailed it around Florida, and even offshore for a couple of storms.

An advantage is it only takes a...

Re: Half amperage from semi flexible solar panel? Possibly damaged?

It may have been a cold solder joint.

A simple tug on the wire shouldn't have pulled them loose.

Re: Dangerous Voltage No Swimming signs at marina

The technology is there, but marinas are far behind in implementing it.

A lot of power plugs I have seen in marinas looked like they dated from ww2, and many weren't even wired correctly.

Re: Marina prices = Top Secret?

If dragging my mouse over Google maps can give me High, low, special room rates, and one click booking price, and number of vacancies. Marinas can do MUCH better.

Re: Honduras: Sailing Boat Boarded and Robbed by Pirates

In any dangerous situation the person involved has to make many life or death decisions.

I would have to say his decision in that situation was the right one, because,....he is still alive.

Re: Marina prices = Top Secret?

We're heading back that way in October.

October is peak hurricane. I was going to wait until the last major one, (or the cold fronts push them south), and go on to Tampa this winter in prep...

Re: Marina prices = Top Secret?

I haven't been able to find the "make a call" menu on my phone in weeks.
Maybe I need to download a new make a voice call app. You mean they still make voice calls?

Re: Marina prices = Top Secret?

In the age of the internet not posting your price is just wasting every one's time, and money. I WILL find your price, and the price of your competitor, it will just take longer.

Apparently...

The active captain was a good call. Lots of blanks for marinas in Lake Charles, and Destin, Pensacola.

Looks like a good resource once all the numbers get filled in.

Does anyone have any...

I'm planning a trip from Texas to Florida, and would...
