Re: Site Not All that User Friendly...

If the OP is having trouble using the forum, it doesn't mean the forum is not user-friendly. It means the OP doesn't know how to use the forum. In addition to learning the very simple technical...

Re: Site Not All that User Friendly...

This is amongst the tamest of sailing forums. You might consider growing a thicker skin if posting here (or anywhere) is something you plan to do much of.

Re: Beneteau 38

Having been in the hull cleaning biz here in the Bay Area for over twenty years, I can tell you two relevant things:

1.- Fraud perpetrated by hull cleaners is NOT common in the Bay Area

2.-...

Re: Hard antifoul paints available in Oz?

You are correct in that Micron 66 is an excellent anti fouling paint. It is not a hard paint however. It is a "hybrid" ablative.

Re: Zincs on a Catalina 22' fixed keel.

Typically, no. It didn't come from the factory with any.

Re: Bottom cleaning without rubbing away anti-foul

Considering most anti fouling paints are designed to give good service for 2-3 years, I'd say once every 2-3 years.

Re: Bottom cleaning without rubbing away anti-foul

I guess I don't understand why anybody who keeps a boat in a place where climate doesn't force you to haul for winter, would paint their boat annually.

Re: Bottom cleaning without rubbing away anti-foul

I assure you it is. The problem with copper-loaded epoxies (like Coppercoat) is that they release so little biocide that they tend to be unsuitable for regions of moderate to high fouling. IMHO.

Re: Bottom cleaning without rubbing away anti-foul

As a hull cleaner, I have a different opinion of that product.

Re: Bottom cleaning without rubbing away anti-foul

Here's the trick- always clean your paint (be it hard, ablative or otherwise) before it gets even moderately foul so that it can be easily cleaned with the softest media possible. For professional...

Re: 'Practical Sailor' - Best Ablative Bottom Paint ?

While copper content may not be the only indicator of an anti fouling paint's efficacy, it is certainly the most important one. And probably the only one available to the consumer. Copper leach rates...

Re: 'Practical Sailor' - Best Ablative Bottom Paint ?

Of course it is. There is no low-copper paint available that can provide the anti fouling performance of a high-copper paint.

Re: Electric fence....

I'm not a cruiser, so I am not "out there." But if I felt so threatened that I felt the need to put an electrified fence around my home to keep bad people out, I'd move somewhere else. Especially if...

Re: Smallest compressor for diving

Why would you do this when you could run a 110-volt hookah that is less complex, less expensive, has a smaller footprint and much longer run time?

Re: Smallest compressor for diving

Everything Brownie's sells is priced at the high end of the range, hookah gear included. Always has been.

Re: Prop cleaning in the water

Understood. But using the proper pad will not remove any more paint than your gloved hand will. But if what you're doing works for you, more power to you.

Re: Smallest compressor for diving

Actually, most of them don't. Most of them (not all) use compressors far better suited for use in a hookah. The Home Depot specials aren't really up to the task of light commercial use in a marine...

I guarantee you could dramatically reduce the time it takes for you to clean your hull if you used something like this instead of your gloved hand.

Re: Which bottom paint for San Francisco Bay?

I don't believe that any reformulated paints are available yet (I could be wrong about this however) and your link is to the Jamestown Distributors Trinidad SR page, which leads me to believe that...
