Re: Automatic transmission fluid in diesel fuel

If anyone thinks manufacturers of expensive things just try to get their product though warranty....well....what can I say.

Cat and Cummins are unbelievable with continued support to keep their...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

Above in red I would strongly disagree with....based on 15 years of hands on training as an instructor.

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

the basic boating safety course outline has already been agreed upon by virtually all states...the National Association of Boating Law Administrators has been refining it for years....many states...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

I don't think the concept of helmsman and captain will be changed all that quickly just because of an accident.....lawsuits included. Each accident will have its own set of facts that will determine...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

So far the LEOS where I mostly boat and NJ has some of the strictest rules are pretty cool about it all.

Depending g on the boat and circumstances, the driver isn't the operator just like in...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

Yes...especially as you get into bigger boats....
but in my experience the level of training or experience is neither extensive and the verification process seems feeble.

Re: Automatic transmission fluid in diesel fuel

That's the rub....thus the fear mongering about additives and ultimately the backyard mechanic solutions to cutting costs.

There are basic field tests looking for the obvious, there is lab...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

It seems to me that insurance would be the determiner.

Those without either a long clean record or substantial boater education would be higher risks and thus would pay more.

But the reality is...

Re: Trip from Long Island to Baltimore

Not too many places to anchor in or even along the Delaware River...pick and plan weather well. I have anchored in the middle of nowhere on a light wind night...but those can be rare.

Also plan on...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

One of the main reasons for some sort of licensing or certification is so there is something to take away and prevent recurring idiotic boating stunts...like BUI .

Prior to licensing/certification...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

I highly doubt it's the internet making boating safer.....the type of boats where people are dying are the type the people use occasionally like snow skis or golf clubs. These people aren't the types...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

In the US, many boating safety stats for small unregistered vessels may not be reported.

Small vessels whether human powered, sail or powered account for the majority of boating fatalities in the...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

In the case of NJ in the USA....

I believe it was $5 that went to the state from a $30 to $100 course to handle paperwork. I am sure the $5 didn't cover all the state's expenses.

Why does...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

If you think the USCGAUX boating safety course is an example of an excellent course...that great...but I have had so many complaints about the quality of instructors that it makes me sick.

My...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

I believe 41 US states require some form of boating safety education.

The National Association Of Boating Law Administrators have most of the state's education standardized.

The training only...

He went on to say...

Re: How do you deal with a bad captain?

In Para 1, that is to be expected somewhat....most captains will have a personality change as you go from Joe nobody to Joe in charge. As was posted, no need to be a jerk about it, but some things...

Re: How do you deal with a bad captain?

The issues at that point though is still personality, culture, experience, communication skills and the reception of the crew.

Even the best leaders have to struggle through most of those and only...

Properly done either way is still accepted even by...

Re: Bahamas Sticker Shock

Talked to a dock builder the other day who sat in a meeting at pretty high levels in government on the US side.

The skinny is Cuba wants to add 10,000 boat slips in the next 5 years.

Hope so!
