Re: Question about zincs

A guppy anode is a substantial piece of metal and should last a long time. If yours is truly depleting rapidly, it's indicative of a problem.

Sea Hawk Paint Execs Go To Prison For Selling TBT Paint

Although this story apparently broke last December, I only heard about it recently.

A marine coatings company and two executives who pleaded guilty in October to willfully conspiring to obstruct...

Re: Looking for hookah system

2nd stage regs de-tuned for use in hookah rigs are available and I have never used anything but. I know divers who have had issues with off-the-shelf scuba 2nd stages when used in a hookah system.

More trouble than it's worth, IMHO.

It's something of a challenge no matter where you do it. And by "challenge" I mean, "pain in the ass."

Re: My prop fell off... f.ck f.ck f.ck.

FYI (and I should have mentioned this before, I guess)- French boats use a different fail-safe system to secure fixed blade props than anybody else. As Hoppy has discovered I'm sure, in the French...

Re: My prop fell off... f.ck f.ck f.ck.

Yes, and that grease will be spread to other surfaces during the installation.

There is really no reason to somehow secure the key in the keyway prior to installing the prop. The OP can simply...

Re: Antifouling in florida

Did I say that the citizens of the countries in questions were a**holes? No, I did not. In fact, I purposefully used the word "governments" to avoid that connotation. Nice try at spinning me to be...

Re: Antifouling in florida

You're parsing words. The ban is global, however certain a**hole governments have chosen not to become signatories to the treaty.

Re: My prop fell off... f.ck f.ck f.ck.

I would recommend against this. The prop is not designed to have a lubricant on the mating surfaces and in fact, it may keep the hub from seating properly.

Re: Antifouling in florida

There is a worldwide ban on tributyl tin paint. No tin on anything, regardless of size. It is not to be used, it is not to be applied and vessels wearing it are not allowed in. The U.S. included.

Re: Antifouling in florida

We differ on this then. It's my planet too and even though you know there are alternatives, you intentionally use the most poisonous anti fouling paint available. Do you also pour used motor oil down...

I'm quite sure it works very well. But the fact remains that tBt is one of the most toxic poisons ever intentionality introduced into the marine environment. That there are still some few nations...

Re: Antifouling in florida

TriButyl tin paints are banned in most seafaring nations and their use is reprehensible.

Re: Antifouling in Florida

This is nothing new. A similar regulation in Marina del Rey met strong public condemnation two years ago. So strong that the RWQCB has tabled the idea for now. What is clear that water quality...

FYI- Loctite 248 is the only Loctite product suitable for an in-water installation. It is blue in color.

Are you certain it is not a grounding plate? I have never known a Beneteau 40 to come from the factory with a hull anode installed.

Re: Trilux 33 dissapointment

Trilux 33 is an extremely soft, short-lived anti fouling paint. I have never found it to provide good performance for more than a year.
