Cheap and even free money means just about any mouth breather with a pulse can get a boat.
Have a $40 phone with navionics and they can apparently cruise the globe.
No skills required.

We don't have a water maker, we do have about 5000 litres of water tankage.
About 3 x a year we pull up to a fuel dock, get some diesel and fill the water tanks.
We also have the ability to collect...

We run about 850 litres or 30 cubic feet of fridges and freezers across 4 separate units.

To get it in 240v cost about $2000
To get that in 12v would cost around $20,000, 10x more and there would...

We on the other hand barely notice them.

We got our current boat specifically to base ourselves in south east Asia.

Commercial quality autopilot
7000 litres of diesel
5000 litres of water
And 2300 watts of solar panels.

We had use and had used many of these "hacks" on previous boats but the best one by far for us was to buy a bigger, more comfortable, but not necessarily more expensive boat.
