Re: What is the fluid in floating compasses ?

You can re-fill yourself if you can be certain you have the right fluid. I ruined a hand-held puck using what was 'supposed to be right' All of the numbers flaoted off the card.

I have that exact one in the photo. There are several all over my 1984 English built boat. Same function as an ordinary outlet except for DC. I have an accessory LED spot light I can plug in on...

Re: Ballast help needed

I would be surprised to find the ballast compromised. Your survey would surely note that. It has a long, keel (full) with encapsulated ballast. Ballast may not be lead in these boats. They are...

Re: Do you think recreational boats should be licensed?

We find there is little difference as long as its power boats. The fact that enough money will put you in command of a 60 foot SeaRay with no understanding of the rules is not acceptable. (In our...

Re: Boat name change?!?

If it is documented you go to the CG documentation site and follow the directions for name change & send $$. I can't remember how much but it was not too bad (5 years ago).

If the PO didn't...

Re: Dock steps are expensive

This is probably not enough lift but we find it useful as a foot rest at the throne. It is the right height also for reaching the high points in the Solon. Fold-away handle. We use it on deck...

Re: Running 220v water heater on 110v supply

This is the correct Answer. You win the star

The 1200 Watt rating is only realized at the rated voltage. The heater will not draw more amps at lower voltage (like an induction motor). ...

Re: Dinghy swamped by following sea and davits bent

We have a small jib hoist on the aft stbd with an 8-part tackle. This easily lifts the OB to the storage bracket. I can do it myself up or down in less than 5 minutes. If you did get in a nasty...

Re: Automatic transmission fluid in diesel fuel

I agree ATF is an aggressive solvent. Is this possibly a problem regarding elastomers? I would be a bit concerned about the mechanical lift pump diaphragm.

Re: Outboard dies when throttling up from idle

New engine - take it in for service. It wounds like it is not getting enough fuel. Fuel filter, fuel pump water in the fuel. We now use only non-ethanol fuel and our outboard runs better. We also...

Re: 2015 bahamas gun check-in update

The statute says revolver. That is a pretty specific mechanism. Does that mean other hand gun loading mechanisms are permitted or perhaps the officials are reading it literally?
