Re: Worst Boat Bottom - Pics

You might be surprised at how many times customers and others have told me this in all seriousness.

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

No, it comes from the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board. And it is far from being a done deal. Really, you should do a little research before you post about this stuff.

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

In California, when a boat with an excessively foul bottom is hauled and pressure washed, the detritus and debris that comes off that bottom must be handeled by the yard as hazardous waste. They have...

Re: Touching up anti-foul while in the water

If there was another way, I'd have a wonderful revenue stream. But there isn't and I'm afraid you are out of luck.

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

The U.S. Navy is actually exempt from following any anti fouling regulations. They can use anything they like. That said, how many nations would restrict entry of U.S. warships if those ships were...

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

After doing some quick research, to my surprise it looks like U.S. submarines use pretty standard (and commercially available) copper-based ablative anti fouling paints:

The current antifouling...

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

The U.S. Navy uses commericially available copper-based anti fouling paints. There is nothing special about them.

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

I have never found any copper-loaded epoxy (which is the category of coating that Coppercoat falls into) to be effective here. And here in the Bay Area our water is not particularly warm (50-70...

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

I assure you the extremely heavy fouling visible in the pic covered the entire hull.

Regarding paint recommendations for the Med, having no experience there I cannot make one. I can only tell you...

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

Assuming you are in California, not one word of what you just wrote is true. Sorry.

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

I own a hull cleaning service. We clean boat bottoms every day. My experience is that Coppercoat has poor anti fouling properties and is not an adequate coating for for regions of moderate to high...

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

Based on local anecdotal results of ultrasonic and personal experience with Coppercoat, I wouldn't recommend either. YMMV however.

Re: Has anyone used painted coatings with electrodes as a form of antifouling?

You have been misinformed. What you need to be looking for is ultrasonic anti fouling. It is not "paint with electrodes in it" but rather a system of hull-mounted transducers that produce ultrasonic...

Re: Adding copper sulphate to antifoul paint

Not the case. Paint manufacturers can formulate anti fouling paints with any amount of biocide they like, providing the biocide is legal for use. If increasing the copper in a particular product was...

Re: Adding copper sulphate to antifoul paint

The U.S. adopted the ban on tin-based anti fouling paints, just like most of the rest of this planet's seafaring nations did. With the exception of the few countries that still allow tin paints,...

Re: can you change a propellar while the boat is in the water?

No, mine is used when I install Max Props. No other prop is complex enough to require a "safety net", for this experienced installer. And I don't let rookies do that kind of work for me.

Plus, I...

Re: can you change a propellar while the boat is in the water?

Important? I couldn't say. Certainly it's not necessary. I do know that props are pulled and reinstalled all over the Bay Area every single day without any of that happening and without any...

Re: Change your Zink

It is a Gori prop but half of the anode is completely missing on that as well.

Re: can you change a propellar while the boat is in the water?

Not only is it possible to swap out your prop underwater, there is typically never a reason to haul a boat for any prop work, be it fixed, feathering or folding.

Looks like a Yanmar.

The anode 100% depleted. Maybe it had been for years.

Re: Flyin Hawaiian Breaking Up?

A C-130 did not block wind and waves. A cargo ship was diverted to the scene for that.
