Re: Happy with your Achilles Hypalon dink?

My mid-90's Hypalon Achilles is the best inflatable boat I have ever owned. I use it in my work every day and it is still going strong.

Re: Adding TBT to bottom paint

A common and erroneous wive's tale. The U.S. Navy does not fall under any American law or regulation concerning anti fouling paint, so they can use anything they like. That said, the Navy has to do...

Re: Adding TBT to bottom paint

Let me refute some misconceptions being promoted here:

1.- Tri butyl tin anti fouling paints (and TbT additives to paints) are banned in almost all seafaring nations, not just the U.S. and Europe....

Re: Port Supply problems

1.- It is not "Port Supply" and hasn't been for a couple of years. The wholesale arm of West Marine is called "West Marine Pro."

2.- Here are the pertinent terms and conditions for West Marine Pro...

Re: Copper Chloride in dinghy bottom paint?

The very great majority of seafaring nations (even China, for ***ks sake) have banned tributyl tin anti fouling paints, despite your attempt to rationalize their use. Only a few tiny Carribean...

Re: Copper Chloride in dinghy bottom paint?

Bwhahahaha! Of course it will be ineffective. But how could you be so rude as to point that out?

Re: Copper Chloride in dinghy bottom paint?

Another issue regarding “renewing” the biocide by dragging the boat over sand is that not nearly all the painted surface will ever come into contact with the sand. Meaning these areas will never have...

Re: Copper Chloride in dinghy bottom paint?

A little sensitive, are we?

I didn't offer any criticism, smug or otherwise. I merely pointed out the flaw in your plan. If that offends you, don't ask for feedback in a public place.

Re: Copper Chloride in dinghy bottom paint?

Without some method of continuously delivering the copper chloride biocide to the boundary layer between the paint surface and the water, it's doubtful your kitchen sink chemistry experiment will be...

Re: Ultrasonic antifouling?? any good??

Caveat emptor, Neil. This guy doesn't display a good knowledge of how and why fouling occurs.

Re: Ultrasonic antifouling?? any good??

It’s pretty clear you have no real concept of what “aggressive fouling” looks like.

Re: Painting under pads and keel blocks

Umm... not so much.

As a hull cleaner, I see this all the time. Pad spots get painted while the boat is in the slings just before splashing. What the yard either doesn't know (or want...

Re: Ultrasonic antifouling?? any good??

Ultrasonic didn’t perform as advertised? That’s shocking, I tell you. Shocking!

Re: Ultrasonic antifouling?? any good??

Well, fool or not, none of you geniuses have answered my very simple, straightforward question; if it works so well, why are there so few in use?

I'll keep waiting... :nonono:

Re: Ultrasonic antifouling?? any good??

See, you think that I have some sort of problem with ultrasonic anti fouling systems. Quite the contrary. I don't really give a two hoots about them because I know that they do not work as advertised...

Re: Ultrasonic antifouling?? any good??

No, because lithium batteries actually perform as advertised.

Obviously you agree that ultrasonic systems are not in widespread use, despite having been on the market for many years. What is your...

Re: Painting over Sea Hawk Biotin

Tin-based anti fouling paint (the use of which is morally and environmentally reprehensible, IMHO) is incompatible with any other type of anti fouling paint. Why you would consider disregarding the...
