Re: Source of food grade air hose for hookah setup

Re: What is the correct distance between cutlass bearing and prop hub?

Regarding the exposed shaft length- if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Especially considering the the minimum gap between the cutless and prop (or anode or whatever is next in the drivetrain) should be...

Re: Gori Prop Problem

Not sure how a broken shaft end equates to inherent, chronic problems with folding props. Again, folders are no more prone to loss than any other type. Every lost folder that I have come across (and...

Re: Paddle wheel speed transducer is driving me nuts

Well, you need to talk to somebody who uses one in your neck of the woods. Anybody from elsewhere can only tell you how long between cleanings where their boat lives, and that is pretty useless to...

Re: Gori Prop Problem

As someone who has spent the last two decades earning their living maintaining all manner props (be they fixed, folding or feathering) on pleasure craft, I disagree with the above statement...

Re: Proper Prop pitch for Maxprop

Again, PYI will recommend a qualified installer/diver in your area. The benefits of having a diver do the job are that the boat owner does not even need to be present for the work to be done and if...

Re: Proper Prop pitch for Maxprop

Easily done but easily checked for as well. The curved blade edges should be facing aft when the prop is feathered fore and aft.

Re: Proper Prop pitch for Maxprop

Remember too, PYI can recommend a diver to do the repitch while the boat is in the water. No need to haul for this.

Re: Newbies wanting info on how to make an income

1.- Many (if not most) marinas now require that hull cleaners carry ship repairer's liability insurance, typically $500,000 to $1,000,000 worth. At least this is the case in California. Further, in...

Re: Autoprop ?

This is simply not the case. While I am not a big fan of the tape solution (for a number of reasons), it is quite effective and seems not to noticeably diminish the anode's ability to protect the...

Re: thruster prop disappeared in 48 hours

Almost certainly this is an issue originating aboard the boat in question. If the powerboat owner hadn't had a marine electrician go through his systems, you might suggest it to him.

Re: Ultra sound anti foul devices

What I need to see is a side-by-side comparison test- Two similar boats, berthed in the same place (in a region of high fouling) using the same anti fouling paint. One boat is equipped with the...

Re: Ultra sound anti foul devices

While I appreciate the kind words, I have to disagree with you. I have performed over 25,000 in-water hull cleanings on many hundreds of different boats here in the Bay Area. Further, the hull...

Re: Ultra sound anti foul devices

If ultrasonic systems performed as advertised, we'd see them everywhere. But I have been in the hull cleaning biz for over 20 years and have yet to come across a boat with one installed. That speaks...

Re: Gori Prop Problem

Agreed. How is any of this the fault of the prop manufacturer? Plus, I am always suspicious when the first (and in this case, only) post by any forum user is one that slams a product or service...

Re: Bottom Paint Oriental, NC

Trilux 33 is one the softest, least durable anti fouling paints you can buy and if regular in-water hull cleaning is a part of your boat maintenance regimen, will not last long. I do not recommend it...

What kind of cleaning regimen do you currently employ and what kind (and amount) of fouling are you dealing with?

Re: Are Liveaboards Unwanted? Disliked? All over Everywhere?

Even if that number were accurate (which it is not), it still means the numbers you posted were wrong.

Really?

That reads pretty much like you expected us to take your word as gospel....

Re: Are Liveaboards Unwanted? Disliked? All over Everywhere?

I don't have to. It is not incumbent upon me to prove you wrong. You made the claims, therefore it is you who must provide supporting evidence. You don't get to make a statement and say, "This is...

I didn't say in which direction her numbers were inaccurate, merely that they were inaccurate. In any case, these "statistics" are completely invented but stated as if they were fact. Very annoying,...

Re: Are Liveaboards Unwanted? Disliked? All over Everywhere?

Jeezus, you just spout this stuff as if it were gospel and you had proof. But it is merely, all of it, your inexpert opinion. Hell, you don't even keep your boat on the Bay. I can tell you that all...
