I would thread a smaller diameter messenger line through your existing halyards end.
Pull the messenger all the way through and tie off.
Measure your existing halyard.

Oh, in that case, then you need at least three or four very strong men to help you put the battens back in. I helped a friend put his backing and it was strenuous.

I don't see any reason for the aft winch not to work in that location.

I think FP mounts all there aft winch inboard a bit in, so you do not have to crouch down so far on your knees and...

That is a Lewmar 72 mm Synchro Block.

Are you talking about the lower swivel halyard block on the mast?
If so, then here is the info you need for that.

Main sail should drop like a rock when you release it. I have to slow mine down with my gloved hands, so it flakes better.

My main halyard double purchase has worked perfect for five years and counting.
I do not have an electric main winch and it goes up easy by hand.

I would just go up the mast and check the upper...

A better way to judge how much Jib sail you have out is to count the 4 reefing points on the sail.

You may want to consider just ordering the original FP Mahe 36 (Incidences)sails.
If your boat was not in charter the original sails would still be in very nice shape.
