Re: Twenty Knots

Yep, that's in the video!

It's a 30th Anniversary video. It even starts with a few shots of this years boats, the AC72s. And a couple of the guys on that 1983 Australian Team were working for...

Re: Twenty Knots

No, I just thought that video of the 30th Anniversary of Australia winning the America's Cup was awesome and probably led to what we have today. Any excuse I can find to post it, I will because I...

Re: Twenty Knots

I think you know as well as anyone, that if an Australian Yacht Club were the Challenger of Record, he would sail for Australia if he could. You can see his pride of the 1983 event here:

Re: Twenty Knots

Pretty much all true, but I do believe it took a while for the Team Oracle sailors to get on pace with the "race ready" KIWIs. Then add in a dash of boat speed and what do you have? The courts (and...

Re: Twenty Knots

Understood, but I'm staying away from that one. The courts can decide it. I was addressing the point about the sailors you brought up.

Others have talked about the tactics of the KIWIs on the...

Re: Twenty Knots

Don't let these guys near a boat (AC72) for at least 24-48 hours.

On tape, on tape........

NBC TODAY Show _ Oracle Team USA:...

Re: Twenty Knots

I think the sailors were all at about the same level. You saw the drag race on leg 2 downwind where it was basically a dead heat the boat speed was about equal as well as the steering, tacks, and...

Re: Twenty Knots

Think ETNZ will play their card? Delay for lighter winds. I'd heard the winds were going to be on the high side the next couple days..............

Re: Twenty Knots

I think Dean Barker has the best seat in the house to judge both boats.

See the article below and the video. He knows what he is up against. It quickly became evident after he won the start and...

Re: Twenty Knots

You definitely have a point there. Plus Russell Coutts, who was the skipper on New Zealand's 1995 America's Cup winning boat Black Magic, is running the show for Team Oracle.

Re: Twenty Knots

It's going to be hard for us to figure out Oracles true speed. They definitely look faster.

At times when you have a 350 meter lead, you can afford to point a little higher on the upwind leg and...

Re: Twenty Knots

You gotta give Dean Barker credit for that start on the last race. He came out and went after Team Oracle USA and Spithill.

Not only did he almost draw a penalty on the prestart, he damn near...

Re: Twenty Knots

In my experience, a foul is normally one 360 degree turn, but that was with catamarans. You'd have to check the race instruction though for each race for any change of the USSailing Rule. Example:...

Re: Twenty Knots

My take is Chris Dixon and BMW Oracle got two (2) penalties. The first for the port/starboard infraction near the pin end mark and the second for making contact. (since Spithll was already on proper...

I just thought I would post this again for folks that may not have seen it before. These starts may look simple to us folks watching, but they are not.

There is always a slight difference in the...

Looks like Spithill has started to remember he is Jim Spithill and is beginning to win the starts consistantly. That along with the fact that the boys are all starting to learn their jobs appears to...

Re: Twenty Knots

Sure they did, that's why they are complaining about things like time limits and wind limits which are all known before the race/event even starts, and a normal guideline in any regatta.

Just to...

Re: Twenty Knots

Maybe I should have said it's standard for Catamaran Racing.

As you have seen, they are racing 2 races a day in this years America's Cup which isn't usual for the AC Cup, but quite normal for...

It doesn't matter, the time limit is the time limit. It's all standard but may seem strange to the uninformed.

Re: Twenty Knots

Looks like this really is the Cruiser's Forum. (non racing) That's a normal race rule. There is always a limit so they/we can get the next race off.

Normally, we catamaran sailors have 4-5 races...

Re: Twenty Knots

Ha! I can tell you haven't raced much. Of course the LV Cup helped ETNZ. It's like in football when they say yes he's practiced with the team but hasn't been under game day pressure yet.

ETNZ was...
