Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

A conversation this morning with Philippa at sales@southernropes.co.uk gives the information that 'creep' in SS12 rigging applications is virtually nil.

She knows her stuff technically and...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

Thanks, 'fxyky' and Benz'. Eevry little helps this 'bear of little brain' ( a literary reference to A A Milne's 'Pooh Bear'. Only those brought up on the Tao of Pooh will understand. )

And...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

I like the idea/practice of 'chafe sleeves' in HMPE, as mentioned above.

Isn't this, however, much the same as is now normal practice on genoa sheets and halyards, but using much harder-wearing...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

G'day, Benz. Yes, a finer example of 'boat bling' I've yet to find. And I have two of 'em!

The stuff is titanium, and I expect it will outlast me. I acquired the items some years ago, in Old...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

I'm one of the many interested in this, and look forward to learning more.

One reason is that I'm considering joining the bridles of a JSD to my 'chainplates' directly, without intervening...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

I like what emerges from a KISS approach to this, and agree a high priority is to mitigate the potential for chafe damage. Having the bridle and leader-loop components 'oversized' increases bend...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

I'd agree with much of that. It's not a competition, and the rough notions explored and depicted were not contenders for prizes. They help me, at least, envisage what NOT to bother with.

I feel...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

The above 'brainstorming' had me looking to emulate some of the ideas. I'm sold on the decision to use a multipart 'softy loop' to join bridle and leader and also interested in using rated lifting...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

This is excellent. There's a sense of 'we're getting there'.

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

You may care, if setting up a pull-test rig, to look at using a 'Prusik' hitch as alternative to a 'Cow' hitch.... i.e. one more round turn.... to see if that has discernible benefit. I suspect it...

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

There may be some mileage in considering other, existing devices for a solution. The 'fall arrest' and 'arboriculture' industries may have some good answers. There is also this:

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

Is there room here for a really hefty/multipart softee shackle? Antichafe sleeving could easily be arranged, slipped onto the length of the s'shackle....

Re: Stealth mode - New Generation Ropes

I'm grateful to SWL, and several others, for repeated lucidity and insight and tried to 'message' such - but not practicable privately. So, 'publicly'....

:frown::Thanx:

I raised my concern...
