Re: Feature Requests

DLJ, under Options (gear icon), Ships tab, the top item is: "COG predictor length (min)".

That determines the length of that pointer. It defaults to where you'll be in 5 minutes (at current course...

Re: Feature Requests

Stingo, I feel your pain. My senior-level eyes have a hard time with those piano-keys as well. It takes more time than I like to wait for the file info box to pop up, & then it's hard to figure out...

Re: Feature Requests

Thanks for this, Bruce. Personally, I agree with you. But I posted it the way I did at Dave's (bdbcat's) suggestion. He seems to favor a conservative approach to this. Perhaps you could make a...

Re: Feature Requests

I was asked by Dave (bdbcat) to put in a Feature Request for how mbTiles wake up when OpenCPN is started. MbTiles used to wake up always ON, but some time ago I pushed through a request that they...

Re: Feature Requests

Stu, a word of caution regarding reading your NMEA 0183 data. Serial to USB modules are readily available, but the problem is that RS232 serial is +/-9v switching, while 0183 is 0-5v switching. A...

Re: Feature Requests

Stu, I'm not really the right person, & perhaps someone more knowledgeable will chime in here, but OpenCPN is quite capable of receiving its data over ethernet, either wired or WiFi. Under...

Re: Feature Requests

Good question, Zags, & you'll be glad to know this is already implemented, & has been for a while.

If you right-click on an AIS target, one of the options (& I'm sorry, I don't remember the exact...

Re: Feature Requests

Very interesting, Spart!

You might want to post this over on the "OCPN data sharing Focus Group (https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f134/ocpn-data-sharing-focus-group-268423-new-post.html)" that...

Thanks, Jef. You're right, it's a good idea. +1 & I added a my 2 cents in a comment.

Re: No scroll option in NMEA debug window proposed

Jef & Marin, Thanks for this.

If you want folks to vote for it, it's best to provide the bug number, or even better, provide a link back to the feature request itself. There are a ton of issues...

Re: Feature Requests

Skipperearly, this is an excellent suggestion. If you enter it in Flyspray (https://opencpn.org/flyspray/), OpenCPN's bug & feature tracking database, & then tell folks about it, either here or in...

Re: Feature Requests

First, Sailormet, welcome to CF (or to posting, anyway).

You have to know which COM port the GPS is running on.

Plug in your mouse
In the search bar, type in Device Manager & bring up the...

Re: Feature Requests

Dockhead, it just does the vector subtraction. The paddlewheel & compass define the vector of the boat's motion through the water, while the COG/SOG from the GPS define the motion over the bottom....

Re: Feature Requests

My ancient (c.1995) Autohelm (now Raymarine) GPS would do this, if compass & paddlewheel data was on the ST1 bus. But it would not put set/drift onto the ST1 bus, which meant that the autopilot...

Re: Feature Requests

Are you sure you want this, Dub? Our courses are usually pretty open in the middle, where we're getting from A to B. But at the ends, they often get pretty fiddly, with lots of short segments,...

Re: Feature Requests

Barakiel, Do you (or anyone) have a recommendation for a good mux? Ocelot's got some 0182 sources, ST1 main instruments & autopilot, & now N2K (SimTalk) GPS. I bought a ShipModul MiniPlex-3 mux with...

Wolf, can you please define "current version"? And also your OS & machine?

The reduce data function for tracks works OK for me in OpenCPN V5.0 (the current released version) under Win10. I admit I...

Re: Feature Requests

Jam, there is already a bug on this in Flyspray (https://opencpn.org/flyspray/index.php?do=details&task_id=2267), the OpenCPN bug tracking system. It's about making ALL dialog boxes remember their...

Re: Feature Requests

The first-time setup of Sat2Chart is a bit tricky, as it also has to install the Rexx interpreter, which doesn't seem to want to install in the normal Program Files location. I've found that it's...

Re: Feature Requests

Get yourself a (free) copy of SAS Planet. It has satellite imagery from ArcGIS (which is awesome), Google Earth, Bing (Microsoft), Nokia, as well as many others. It also has nautical charts from CMap...

Re: Feature Requests

Hmm... Even better would be for OpenCPN to display PARTS of multiple mbTiles (all at the same zoom, or close to it), so the display would look more uniform. But this would require that OpenCPN know...

Re: Feature Requests

Hi Dave,

When I make mbTiles with SAS & Sat2Chart, I usually make them in sets of 5: ArcGIS, Bing, CMap, Navionics, & GE (which comes out last because they get named "Satellite" for reasons lost...

Re: Thinning mbTile piano-keys at run time

This is difficult for me to explain, so please bear with me.

I've found that creating mbTiles (with SAS Planet & Sat2Chart) from just the most detailed zoom level results in OpenCPN having to...

OK, I've now created a new Feature Request in Flyspray for the above:
