On the port side in the ER you should have a white panel in front of the batteries which support the switches and breakers.
This one can be cut on its two edges and mounted with hinges back...

We have replaced a few batteries.
The easiest is to cut the front panel then reinstall it with hinges
But we have been able to pull batteries out without that on Larry Winchell 's Mahe after she...

For Volvo as long as your warranty cards are send you should be OK
Boats have to be serviced on their way across also and not many volvo dealers there

you will need to convert your toilet to a fresh water ( you can use your fresh water pressure system but you will need a solenoid switch as well as a filter as you do not want bacterias running back...

Hello Jef

You got the problem spot on.We had the issue on some boats and fixed it by adding a layer of caulking to the jonction of the wood and fiberglass.
It has cured the problem ...so far

Keep the batteries in the ER
Opening the bunk to the ER will bring you fumes and smell + longer cable runs.
