Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

If it's not too late in the build of the new boat, maybe you can the to add an ROV garage in the bilge. Launch it from inside and the neighbours will not see what you are up to. Very James Bond like...

Re: Final contribution - part 2

In the first video you can see that it does try to dive very quickly. This matches with its performance in many sand anchorages I've dived on in the last 2 years.

I guess that with coarse sand,...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I think my Vulcan is just camera shy. It can't do anything about me diving on it with my camera, but with the help of my boat it took the opportunity to get away from the GoPro and hide 😜

I regret...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

The lunch wasn't worth it, but I'm glad I got the gopro out and annoyed that I never tried it years ago :banghead:

Given the way the Vulcan has set and held on so many sandy bottoms (some times in...

Final contribution - part 2

After the 3:1 failure I decided to give the Vulcan a chance redeem itself on video, so I let out more chain to make the scope 5:1 and then repeated the sam backing up procedure but this time holding...

Final contribution - part 1

I'min Rhodes marina, next stop the marnia in Fethiye where I will leave the boat until she is shipped to Australia. Whilst in the southern parts of Aus, I think it is highly unlikely that I'll be...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

LOL

I did a "Hoppy" again today :banghead: but that was after some other anchor related drama.

My bowsprit has the anchor roller integrated into it and it came standard with a tilting roller....

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I wish I had that the other day when I was looking for a place to anchor. There were some stunning rock formations where I got stuck which would have made great photos. Would love to snorkel there...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I dropped about 5m directly behind a previous set mark.

Wind swung 180 but the chain held us over the anchor

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

After the rock incident I went to a safe sandy anchorage

It was blowing 20+ so I decided to not backdown and just see how it goes. During the afternoon the highest gust was 31 and this is the...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Thankfully it only took me a couple of minutes to get unstuck.

The mess was perhaps 5-7m down, so I let out some chain and dived down. Luckily I was able to unwrap the chain from the rock on my...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I spent the day lazy onboard after my night time relocation. Then in the late afternoon I grabbed my camera and went for a swim. When I got to the bow and looked at the chain I saw the horror of all...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

This is yesterdays anchorage. A grassy bottom and the Vulcan dug in nice and quickly. I backed down at 2500rpm or so and it held fine.

Later in the day I guy (could be Finnish) who owned a motor...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I have little choice. The bow roller setup on my bowsprit is a bit narrow, so the shackle I bought with suitable strength for my G70 chain would not fit. I had another high strength swivel last year...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I don't know how successful they were. At the time I knew him I didn't have a yacht and was not interested in anchors :whistling:

It's an Ultra Swivel and it is designed to be fitted directly to the shank

The anchor looked no different in the morning.

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I knew a Swedish engineer who at one point was involved in modifying the design of a bruce like anchor. His task was to also make it glide. Very handy in Sweden where the like to tie bow first to...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

So nice to be in an anchorage with clear water for a change.

When I dropped the wind was light so I backed down at 2800rpm for 15 seconds to dig it in. But before I went for the swim the wind...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I wonder if the Pogo is the wide arsed yacht that was in Paros when I arrived.

I had a similar problem in Poros. I was anchored in 15m with 75m of chain out and a bit of wind. Then in the...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

No luck with the swim, the water's so murky that I could not even follow the chain.
