Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Yea, agreed those archipelagos are 'shallowish' so you can usually go for a low points. In 'fjordland' the low point is often deep, a couple hundred meters down, so you just go for what you can grab...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

generally agree, but there is at least one cruising niche where not . . . . those are actually exactly where you usually want to anchor in 'fjord like' environments. Because elsewhere you have...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Lots of soup in ches bay and seemed to work just fine, only did not "set" once I can remember . . . . because I was anchoring inside a mooring field and had 2:1 scope out. I just let it sit/settle a...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

We picked up a very large Spanish Armada anchor off the bottom in Kinsale Ireland - made the windless groan - the Harbour master came out when we told him what we had, and it is apparently on museum...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I am sort of astonished that damage could happen . . . I would have guessed windless clutch would have slipped long before. . . . But I guess if clutch was never used (power up & down) and pretty...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

To be picky this Morning . . . No, it is quadratic growth not exponential. Exponential is 2^x, while quadratic is x^2 = what wind force is, increases with the square of wind velocity (not the...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

We have only been hit once in all our cruising (in mexico).

We were not on board, but when we came back found wood splinters and chunks all along the port decks, with not a scratch on Hawk :)

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

Noelex, I can't remember . . . have you see any boats drag yet? I remember the broken swivel, but I can't remember any boats truly dragging (due to wind, not when setting)

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

I will comment that I in fact quite often simply drop my anchor on the bottom, and don't pull it deeply under, when I think/know the bottom to be good. I really only carefully set it if there is a...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

I am a bit surprised how good the bottoms are for anchoring.

Are you particularly careful/picky about your anchorages and then about where you anchor in that anchorage, or are these...
