I guess all those plastic Corvettes out there since the 50's have been doing something wrong. :) Paint is not supposed to be as thick as gel and if applied to thick can shorten the life span of the...

Not so true, there were and are some manufacturers that paint their vessels before leaving the factory. Longevity of gel or paint in sun also has to do with color selected, I.E. dark colors don't...
