Sorry, maybe I was a bit blunt.
I was considering it from the lunch eating angle.
My boom is 17ft of solid 5" fir. When I ease the sheet right out as square off as I can get it, without fouling...

I think a lot depends on your underwater shape. My boat is long keel with a little cutaway in the forward sections.
I can give her a little up - helm, and ease the main, and she will sit as steady...
