Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

What a great idea! I've seen these on the floor in children's rooms and at child day care facilities, but never thought of their potential as a condensation barrier on the boat. Nancie has put this...

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

I might not know this inconvenience, but then I've never lived in a house of my own. 'just grew up in my parent's house until I was 17. I can imagine the inconvenience of cold weather, but I've...

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

Of course my wife, Nancie, never did "...burn any bridges by giving up all the home comforts, never mind the home itself, before setting off on a sailing adventure." She never had anything to give...

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

I should admit that, though we cruise on less than half of our income, we are living on far more than $500/month. Still, our ability to live on half of our income comes with never owning a house...

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

I agree that people bring their former economic expectations with them when they move aboard. When we moved aboard we both had debts from college loans, all we owned could be carried on our backs...

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

I excel with the "little amount of stuff" category, but I do not cruise on $500/month. I do stay well under my income, but I'll blow the whole $500 for a month at a marina; a hull out, my yearly...

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

I guess I could be happier with the "less" that is mine, but I've never had "more" so it's hard to judge. Before we moved aboard everything we owned could fit in our car, but that was a Karmann...

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

I've know some who think tht the Morgan Out Islands are real "Dogs" when it comes to pretty. I like the simple, functional & low maintenance. My rails and companionway slides are starborad plastic....

I'd choose the low maintenance plastic duck over the high maintenace brightwork swan any day! Low cost function trumps expensive pretty!
