You can mount the main unit any way you want, but it should not be closed up in a small space and the fan and vents should not be obstructed. The radio will be generating somewhere between 25 watts...

Nick - what you say is true - about elevated radials. When you are throwing them into the hold, inches away from seawater, I think they will be significantly de-tuned, just like ground mounted...
