Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I did contact Spade a couple years ago about drilling a hole in the shank to add a second bolt near the one that is there now. They told me any modifications to the anchor would void the warranty....

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Hey Steve. If what you're saying is true, why are so many CQR anchors still around? They were made with the same galvanized/lead in the toe combination and don't seem to have that problem. I upgraded...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Funny I thought the same thing.:thumb: I know exactly where Steve was doing these tests, and made a mental note to avoid it. Aside from the shallow channel you need to weave through just to get...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

First off, thanks for the reply, Steve. I can see what you're saying. But I can see Dons point.. If you had soft mud or sand, and a rollbar anchor lands upside down, would it not just drag upside...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I'm not a roll bar anchor guy, or an engineer, but I have a question/request for Steve. Since the tip to total weight is 50%, higher than any other anchor you've tested, would the natural inclination...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I've got a 45lb Spade on a 35' sailboat and my buddy's got an Excel(don't know the weight) on his 39' sailboat. We both cruise in the PNW, where Steve does his testing, and have buddy boated numerous...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Sorta happened to a friend of mine who was using a Rockna. A rock got lodged in the rollbar, and his boat started to drag while he was away. Other boater noticed and re-anchored him after pulling the...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Before I bought a Spade for my current boat, all I used for the boats I've owned were CQR anchors. Only had one incident in the past 32+ years of PNW cruising where it didn't grab and hold, but just...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Interesting...The only rust on mine is at the tip and that's to be expected, I think. I got it 4 years ago, and up until this summer, it's been used a lot, here in the PNW, as it is my primary...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I second that, not that I want to replace my Spade:nonono:. Just looking for a decsent second anchor. My brother bought a Vulcan for his 25' trailerable motorboat, and likes it, but his boat weighs a...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

I concur. I researched for a while, but Steve's videos were the final straw that convinced me to change over from a CQR to a Spade. My old anchor only failed to grab once, while I was anchoring, and...

And, IF that's true, then I'm smarter than I look, cause my NG anchor doesn't have a roll bar.:thumb: And it keeps digging in and holding... :smitten:

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Not meaning to nit pick(though I am:wink:) if you watch the video completely he addresses the rotation issue on every anchor. Some even show the anchor chain going past the anchor, so I don't see...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Two and a half years after purchasing a Spade S100, I have nothing but total faith in it. I've used it exclusively and never had a problem with dragging or failing to hold in whatever I anchor in,...

Re: Videos of Anchors Setting

Hey Steve. Thanks for the effort you put in. Because of you, I'm now the proud owner of a Spade S100 on my Wauquiez Pretorien. It's probably big for my 35' 13500 lb boat, but better to be too big...
