Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

Ahhh that makes sense. A little fancy for my needs, but it does seem to work really well not that my halyard has been installed correctly.

The facnor manual even shows the halyard...

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

Nigel, you're a god send.

Now I get to go shopping for a second sail

It's quite strange to me that it has two slots that are the same size. I wonder if it matters which one I use?

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

Thanks Nigel! I had found that a while back and I never scrolled down to see that they were written in english as well

I'm reading through it now. It's actually extremely detailed. I...

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

I think where a lot of my confusion is coming from is the fact that my boat did not come standard with a furler and it was an upgrade, so the manual makes no mention of it.

I have also checked...

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

Spot on. Repair is only going to be 150 and that's . I'm really glad I didn't decide to do some amateur hack job on my genoa :whistling:

It is a little big at 135% though. I would like to...

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

The rigger was telling me it looked to him like it would cost about 400 dollars(US) to fix.
The dacron is not ripped at all. It's just the UV cover. I am astonished that it would cost 400 to sew a...

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

Just an update:

I ended up calling some riggers out to the boat. The rope/wire halyard had jumped the sheave. They ended up running a new main and genoa halyard. Once they got up top, they...

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

Here are my current thoughts...get a helper and have them bunch up the sail (so it doesn't blow around at the dock) while I manually unroll it by hand without using the roller. This is the only way I...

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

I tried raising it some more but it won't budge, not even with the winch.

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

It's a facnor ls130. it looks like the halyard is wrapping around it up top when I try and unroll it. I'm still messing with it right now

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

Thanks guys I will pull it down and report back with pics :thumb:

Trouble is, the sail runs up a track inside the aluminum sleeve that's wrapped around the head stay. If I can't unroll it, how do...

Re: Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

This is my first cruiser I've ever even been on and I am used to sailing a beach catamaran(which did not have a furler), so the difference in rigging is taking a little getting used to. It's a 28ft...

Advice on roller furler (or replacement)

This is my first sail boat with a roller furling head sail.

So far it seems like more of a hassle than it's worth;
It's never rolled 100% and used to take great force(2 people) to get it to...
