Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

That's what i did in the end (after the stupid technician didn't bother to show up as we had agreed on).

Filled up with R134A till the compressor pulled about 4amps at 2000rpm and the whole...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

No, i did not. I had a technician coming over whose english skills are as good as my french skills :whistling:

He instantly started refilling after the compressor started and he did not measure...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

@john61ct:

Currently there is about 5-7 inch of insulation on the bottom but only one inch on the top. The topsides get very cold outside, so there is definitely some efficiency to gain there. ...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

So for now, the system is running good (though only as a refrigerator, no spillover system yet). There is a small amount of frost on the evaporator on maybe a little bit more than the lower 50%, but...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

We had a technician on board this morning. He refilled the system and now the evaporator is getting cold. We will finish the install now and then do some further testing.

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

We finally got to doing this project.

In the end we bought an Isotherm kit with BD50 and large O-Evaporator.

Insulated the box with 2" PU-Plates and 2-part foam, thickness is between 2...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

Its not much. Imagine the hull of the boat that is quite round nearby the waterline and then the corner where side and bottom wall of the icebox join with a 90deg angle. between the corner and the...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

I was thinking about the CD-30 as well because we could install it easily in a space where we do have one of our two (french boat...) wine racks. But 30L is still a little bit on the small side and...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

While i'm sure this system is worth it, we simply cant afford a compressor system for 2799USD plus Grenada taxes. We can get an isotherm system for about 500 here in Germany and bring it when we fly...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

@Coldeh Marine:

So far i couldn't find any useable space. The saloon berths are on top of the water tanks, the quarterberth is on top of the diesel tank. There is storage below the forward cabin...

Re: Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

Thanks for this idea, i was thinking about something like that as well. Problem is that we have our water tanks below the main settees, but as our saloon is U-shaped i was thinking about putting the...

Input needed: New fridge system for our Dufour 35

Our 1978 Dufour 35 still has its original(!) Engel 14L fridge, that works flawlessly even in the tropics. While this is very impressive, it is using quite a lot of electricity (50Ah/day and sometimes...
