Re: Why is my boat pointing into the wind?

Well... so how is the quadrant fixed on the rudder stock? Is it just clamped on really tight? That may come loose and slip. I am happy you solved the problem though! And when I get up there to visit...

Re: Why is my boat pointing into the wind?

OK, this is the statement I'd like to know more about. Are you certain that the quadrant is not slipping on the rudder post? In other words, how do you know the rudder position by looking down on the...

Re: Why is my boat pointing into the wind?

I thought of that too but I dismissed it as another crazy thought. I just haven't seen it and couldn't imagine how that would happen... clearly my imagination is not wild enough. THAT is clearly...

Re: Why is my boat pointing into the wind?

Seems like you'd probly feel something in it too though if it slipped. Depending on the size of the quadrant it might not...

Re: Why is my boat pointing into the wind?

Re: Why is my boat pointing into the wind?

all true but it doesn't sound like his situation. Assuming we're not being trolled here, (which, no offense, does happen from time to time,) my next question is just how loose is your backstay? I am...

Re: Why is my boat pointing into the wind?

Typically the backstay tensioner is to pull the top of the mast back to tighten the headsail luff as I’m sure you know, but if the mast itself is raked more than it is supposed to you’ll get more...

Re: Why is my boat pointing into the wind?

So I’d want to know the condition of the sails, how they were trimmed, how the rigging is tuned and whether the mast has the correct rake, if any. Then I’d ask how the boat was loaded. By the sound...
