Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Bingo! Compared to total cost of most boats.... and try dragging in a blow some day and see if you’d gladly throw
a hundred dollar bill in the air to stop safely...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Right though you could pay for spare mantus for less than price of spade....

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

May be a scale issue. We had a 33 lb Bruce on our prior 33 foot boat. Always set great initially on Chesapeake but in squalls over 30 kts would slow drag. Bigger may truly be better

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Nice thing about spade fortress and mantus is you could purchase a spare shank if going afar. I plan to do so if I end up going where I can't get quick shipping. Seems like cheap insurance

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

It's funny- I get that Fortress wants to defend use of their anchor in all conditions. But whether valid or not- the perception that the fortress is the ideal secondary/ storm anchor /kedge probably...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I also think having a loose line for retreival could have been major contributor in fortress resetting failure. It could have kept flukes from flipping if anchor was inverted, right?

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

There's something weird attaching chain to shank it seems? Keeping anchor twisted somehow? Or a bent shank?

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

How long is the set mark? I see parallel chain marks- are those from prior anchor position and did it slowly drag? Or someone else's chain marks?

Photos of Anchors Setting

Ha! Just noticed he's wearing the anchor shirt. I think so- he spent hours in the tidal pools this week anchoring and re-anchoring his toy boat.

Thanks for the pics. Definitely stokes my...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

This stainless delta has landed in perfect sand conditions though has unorthodox rode.

It set within an anchor length with minimal heaping up

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I figured. Would be interesting to do head to head with spade eg. But no pressure. I'm so appreciative of your videos and noelex's pix. Very illuminating.

Just have had a couple of times my rocna...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Did you buy vulcan because you couldn't fit a rollbar, or did you think it to be superior to original rocna?

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I really liked Steve's videos with harsh reversing conditions. Really showed where the stars were at resetting- mantus, spade eg. Curious if vulcan performs comparably to spade since about 1/2 the...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I really like the Vulcan on paper. Looks a lot like spade so would be great to see some testing. Panope, can you lay hands on one?

Tandem anchors? Would show pitfall of that flawed technique.

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Yeah- after watching a delta slowly, inch by inch drag through loose sand/dead coral on each swing on my last 2 charters- I'd say sure the set quickly and surely but without a ton of holding power in...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Good point. Here in chesapeake I wonder if I'll see anything. I certainly wouldn't see anything while the anchor is setting, I can be sure of that given the muck. I was thinking for chesapeake to set...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I wonder about a continuous line loop through roll bar with both ends tied to float on surface. Once anchor is set, can haul down buoyed gopro to anchor while filming, release to surface and retrieve...

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

Having had a mantus first on my old boat and now a rocna, I think you would be splitting hairs to choose. I think the rocna shank is heavier and stronger relative to overall anchor weight. Mantus...

So how did you ID these anchors? You pull them out to check? :)
