Yup... when I used to use my bog standard Jaycar inverter it had to be switched off when doing any radio work.

Agreed , I use one of these DCDC-USB, Intelligent DC-DC converter with USB interface (https://www.mini-box.com/DCDC-USB?sc=8&category=981)
Not only more efficient but also much less interference...

I'm just in the process of upgrading mine.. my old Via puter must be about 6yo now and I wouldn't want it to go TU on the long sea voyage currently in prospect .

What I have just ordered is one...

I've never come across a ham radio that doesn't run directly off 12vdc.

I think finding a DC-DC converter that can handle 30 amps would be a bit of a challenge.

I have one of these OpenUPS (https://www.mini-box.com/OpenUPS?sc=8&category=981) powering a Macbook Pro plus two more basic 12v/12v ( constant 12.8v out) ones powering an LCD screen and a Via PC... ...
