Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Hey Rick, glad to see you up and running again. Was wondering how the progress was coming along.
Them's plastic covers don't last long. Was wondering how long it would take for the sun to get it.

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

I emphasize!

I've been flat on my back since April 9 with a major painful sciatic left nerve. Got a couple steroid injections today. Still some minor pain 8 hours later but need to give it a...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Don't feel bad! I did the same thing at first, and had the instructions right there.
A good thing I did the measurements right. I only had 1" to spare.

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Hey Rick,

Don't know if it's in the works, or not? But do you have plans in the design to have passageways large enough to get the motor out/in, just in case you ever have to pull the motor at...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Yeah, I'd kinda like that BUT I'll be bring the Duckling back up from San Diego in another week. I'm starting to miss that smell of hot epoxy kicking too soon. Don't miss the glass fibers between the...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

A laser can also be used to dial in the coupler on motors as well, by adhering a mirror to the tranny coupler and directing the laser up the center of the shaft strut and stern tube. When the light...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Yeah, it's getting that first little bit of chain started. Once it starts flowing it seems to carry on. Line rode is worse, better if wet.

Love boats like that but the co$t. Use to coxswain a landing craft in Vietnam. Was fun running them up on the beach and backing out.

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

When in the Navy, out in typhoons, aboard ship I use to watch the stress/exspansion joints. One really gets the drift about allowing the boat to flex. At first it seems scary but you realize the...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

I got the idea from a builder on the net. The foam is basically used as a spacer for the bulkhead to hull, and has no real function. And if the hull takes a hit the foam will just crush. I suppose...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Yeah, one good bump against a dock next to a solid bulkhead could cause some problems.

Some of the steel ships I've worked on had a "U" welded in right where the bulkhead meets the hull. Or large...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

ya might want to think about your chain locker too, in relation of the windlass position and how much chain you're going to use, with drains and all. Dunno if its in your drawings.

In some...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

I have pulled my coupler once to upgrade to a larger shaft. I had to bore the thrust bearing arbor to accommodate the larger coupler. One thing I did do that's not in the instructions, I drilled and...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

From what I can tell from the pictures, is that the center is the race area, which I'm sure is hardened material, and the ends are sheet metal. Not much much chance of getting any threads in there. ...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

There are a few differences between your set up and what I had to go through.

First, your shaft between the CV joints is really long. I hope that doesn't cause a whipping problem. Mine is only a...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Do keep these pythondrive parts sprayed with WD-40. My CV joint assembly is staring to loose it's coating so I'm going to need to paint it soon. (350 hours)

I have the PSS and it's a dry bilge But...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

I would say it's gassing. Maybe from something going on in the wood. I'd try putting a small hole up where that small bubble started back.

When I was laying in my cockpit I had several pinholes...

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Hey Rick,

Ya have to remember that metal is a bit harder then wood (most of the time) and you need to slow down your cutting speeds quit a bit.

Ya can't use wood blades for metal...
