Just use some 10 or 12 inches of duct tape of reasonable quality, the type with cloth in it. Stick the 2 lines on it in the duct tape's length, with the ends just touching, wrap the duct tape...

Don't know about your situation, but it Is a nice sail from La Rochelle to Panama and then up American west coast. Might take some time though.

I would recommend a hydranet radial sail. More expensive but keeps its shape much longer than dacron. Hydranet is a woven sail, made of a dacron/dyneema mix; it does not haven the disadvantages of...

Officially it's 18, actually 19 is better. But I would add 2 * 1.5 meters to cut off two times, the end is wearing fast if you're sailing reefed regularly.

Maybe they mixed up the length of the halyard with the length of the sheet? The mainsail sheet is actually 35 meters.
